Singing up in Solidarity
Event description
SINGING UP COUNTRY, FAMILY, SOLIDARITY & PEACE
Join our community for an afternoon to lift our voices, hearts and spirits. In the resonant timbers of the old Druids Hall, The Rebel Choir will sing up a bunch of songs ( ;-) it'll be the choir's first official public performance). The Harmony Hunters will also sing a couple, we'll sing a couple together and in fact by then hopefully ALL present will be singing ! :-) It'll feel SO good and we'll raise some funds to ripple out to places & people that really need it.
Please bring a potluck plate to share & there'll be cuppas available by donation. The hat will also be getting passed around on the day & please donate ( if you can ) when you register for your spot as well. ( Only ltd. capacity in the hall ).
ALL FUNDS WILL GO TO THE FOLLOWING:
In alignment with Peace & human rights movements including our Torres Strait Islander people who are taking the government to court for climate justice we have chosen to donate funds to: Amnesty International Australia https://www.amnesty.org.au/
And in Solidarity with First Nations justice in WA & the Dodd family who recently lost their 16 year old son in prison we've chosen to donate funds to: Social Reinvestment WA (SRWA) an Indigenous led coalition of nearly 30 not-for-profits working together to end the systemic over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in WA’s justice system. For the past five years, the group has campaigned tirelessly for smart justice reforms & social reinvestment approaches that address the underlying causes of crime thereby building healthy families & safe communities.
