Complexity in Manufacturing comes in many forms :

•  large variety of products, features and services sold to customer base  - sometimes even bespoke to individual customer needs
• natural variation in raw materials - demanding process adjustments 
• rapidly changing customer demand

Some examples of industries that almost naturally lend themselves to complexity from product variety are :  

• cardboard box manufacturing 
• glass window manufacturing 
• automotive and transportation manufacturing and component manufacturing 
• Valve manufacturing

Complexity almost always adds to production costs and has the potential to eat into efficiency and profitability. Despite this , some manufacturers manage complexity well and see it as a market strength.

How do these producers successfully manage their complexity , to design the products well in the first place and then have the correct information available at the time required to those that need it at that time to ensure customers needs are always met.

This SIRF workshop is a chance to bring together those manufacturers that deal with complexity on a daily basis to share how their people and their systems are set up to cope with their complexity in manufacturing. It is a great chance to share and learn so that all can benefit.
