Event description

In this event authors Kristin Murdock and Dorothy Shorne will be on a panel discussing 'the crime short story.'

Kristen is the winner of the Sisters in Crime Australia Scarlet Stiletto 2020 'The Melbourne Athenaeum Body-in-the-Library Library Award' for “The Irony of Silence” short story. She will be reading her short story during the event.

About Kristen Murdock:

Sharing a birthday with Agatha Christie, it’s no surprise Kristin turned to a life of crime – writing, that is. Kristin works as a freelance journalist and art teacher in APY Lands by day and crime writer by night, with a handy degree in psychology and sociology. Prior to becoming a published crime writer, Kristin had a YA book – ‘Bad Boys’ published by Pan Macmillan but even in that different genre, crime played a major role in the story line. Poisons are generally her weapon of choice and having lived in rural SA for most of her life, her next project is a farm-based crime novel. Her current manuscript, ‘Alibi on Althorp’ is at the 150000 word mark.

Like all writers, her dream is to nab a book contract and make writing her sole occupation. Kristin is a regular entrant in the Scarlett Stiletto Awards. She was runner-up in the Scarlett Stiletto Awards in 2010 and winner of the malice domestic section, with her story, ‘Sally’s Sea Change’ and also won Most Satisfying Retribution with ‘Plenty More Fish’ in 2019 and The Body in the Library Award in 2020 with her story ‘The Irony of Silence’. Kristin has collected all her short crime stories in her latest book ‘She is Vengeance.’

About Dorothy Shorne:

Currently living in semi-retirement in Adelaide, Dorothy Shorne has had a varied career. She built modular houses in Central Australia, opened various businesses, and was involved in the development of Sydney Airport.
She is a published romance writer, and loves the short story format in a range of genres, also being published in two Stringybark anthologies and two anthologies produced by the Melbourne Social Writers. She was shortlisted in the 2018 Scarlet Stiletto Award, run by Sisters in Crime and is keen to hear the results of this year’s competition.
