NAWIC Wellington Site Visit: Whakawhirinaki – The Silverstream Pipe Bridge

Join NAWIC Wellington for a special site visit to one of the region’s most critical infrastructure projects – the Whakawhirinaki Pipe Bridge in Silverstream.

📍 Location: Whakawhirinaki Pipe Bridge Project Site, Silverstream, Upper Hutt
📅 Date: Wednesday 23 July
🕒 Time: 3:45 PM (approx 1hr duration).
👷‍♀️ PPE Required: Hardhat, hi-vis, steel-capped boots, safety glasses, long pants, and long sleeves.
(PPE spares available, so please let us know in your RSVP if you need to borrow any items.)

Kindly hosted by Brian Perry Civil, this behind-the-scenes look at the nearly completed pipe bridge will offer a rare opportunity to see innovative civil construction in action. The visit is strictly limited to 15 places, so get in quick!

Constructed on behalf of Greater Wellington and Wellington Water, the new pipe bridge replaces a seismically vulnerable section of bulk water pipeline that supplies all of Porirua City and North Wellington. The project involves 1000 metres of 1-metre diameter steel pipe across the Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River and Manor Park golf course – including a striking new three-span pipe bridge with a 100m network arch at the central span.

Named Whakawhirinaki by local iwi during a dawn ceremony, the name reflects the trust and responsibility the bridge carries as it delivers essential water to thousands of people.

Through early contractor involvement and outside-the-box thinking, Brian Perry Civil and other project stakeholders have achieved significant cost savings and carbon reductions, showcasing innovation in both design and delivery.

🎟️ This event is free and open to NAWIC members only
