    Event description

Please note that this event has been postponed to 22 February 2024.

Join the Lab for an engaging conversation with Julie Boulton, (Senior Adviser and Circular Economy Leader for the Australian Fashion Council and Product Stewardship Scheme Advisory member for the design of Seamless) exploring the relationship between the fashion and international development.

The fashion industry is not shifting fast enough to meet the requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement or the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Given the high levels of global consumption, coupled with continued over-production (with a truckload of abandoned textiles being dumped or incinerated every second) fashion consumption impacts all aspects of development - from labour and human rights to the environment.

The Lab is diving deeper into what Australia's role here could - and should - be. Given 97% of our clothing is imported, how does Australia's domestic consumption impact lower and middle-income nations? What should be Australia's foremost reform priorities, and how can our international development program address the myriad of challenges posed by the clothing industry?
