Wuppertal Ensemble
a.la. Turner
Redefining Jazz at the Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival

One woman’s voice is barely heard but here we have six in symposia – creating unique musical textures inside Australia’s most curious acoustic jazz venue.

Immerse yourself in a sonic landscape with the Wuppertal Ensemble, an all-female powerhouse redefining jazz and experimental music. Performing at Sydney’s most intriguing acoustic venue, Ms Kitteridge and Bok Choy, this ensemble brings together six dynamic voices to create innovative and captivating musical textures.

As The Living Room Theatre’s newly formed resident band, the Wuppertal Ensemble channels a unique all female perspective into their performances, weaving original compositions through improvisations and theatrical conduction. With The Living Room Theatre’s commitment to explore the female voice and themes this ensemble push the boundaries of jazz, theatre, and societal conventions.

Over the course of 2025 and beyond these curious musicians will develop a distinct repertoire and approach to challenge systemic attitudes to violence and the female body through the agitation of the ears.
