Size Inclusive Practice 101
Event description
Whether we work in prevention or response, our shared goal as health professionals is to improve community health and dismantle the barriers that get in the way of wellbeing.
One such barrier is sizeism – a form of discrimination that we may perpetuate, knowingly or unknowingly. Evidence tells us that behaviour does not decisively determine body weight, and body weight does not consistently reflect health. Yet, we don’t always see this message reflected in the health system.
Size discrimination is a women’s health issue, and is a driver of sexism, racism and colonialism. It disproportionately targets women and individuals with multiple stigmatised identities, including diverse sexualities, ethnicities and abilities.
Join us for a webinar that challenges size discrimination and promotes the alternative – size inclusive practice. This webinar goes beyond theory, providing actionable insights and tools to make a difference in your professional practice. By embracing a size-inclusive approach, you contribute not only to the well-being of individuals but also to the broader goal of fostering a more equitable and compassionate healthcare system.
Together, let's confront sizeism and pave the way for a healthier, more inclusive future.
WHEN: Tuesday 5 December, 10 - 11.15 am
WHERE: Online via Zoom
Join us to improve your knowledge and understanding of:
- Sizeism as a gendered barrier to achieving health outcomes
- Size-inclusive practice, with a focus on prevention (I.e. size-inclusive health promotion)
- The link between gender transformative and size-inclusive practice.
You’ll also improve confidence in applying size-inclusive practice principles to their work, drawing on the Better Health Network size-inclusive practice tool, and prevention items in the National Eating Disorders Strategy.
