Skate at SHIFT
Ever wanted to skate inside a museum? Jump on your board or strap on your wheels and join the Garden City Sessions crew to explore a portion of the emptied museum.
With Canterbury Museum's galleries and storerooms emptied in preparation for the redevelopment, this is your one and only chance to skate inside this iconic building! Enter through the historic Christchurch Street to gear up in the stunning glow-in-the-dark A Gift from the Night mural space by Auckland artists Flox and SWEATS, then head down into the Basement and up to the Textiles Store for two hours of urban skate heaven. There will be something for everyone, with a range of beats playing throughout both rooms, and street skate features provided by George Read from Cheapskates Skate Skool.
Skate culture has long been intertwined with urban art, and we are pleased to be able to offer you this exclusive experience within the wall-to-wall murals of SHIFT: Urban Art Takeover. Should you be inspired and wish to see more, all participants will be given a voucher to visit the full exhibition in your own time at a discounted rate ($15.00).
Please note this event is restricted to skaters aged 15 or over. Tickets are $20.00.
Please bring your own board/roller skates/inline skates as no gear hire will be available. Helmets are highly encouraged, as is other protective equipment such as knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. No scooters or E-skate devices permitted. Please follow the instructions of our Visitor Hosts and limit your skating to the allowed areas. Strictly NO skating through the Christchurch Street. Roller skaters and inline skaters are to move between spaces using the elevator only. By purchasing a ticket, you agree that you are skating at your own risk, responsible for your own safety, and will not hold the Museum liable for any injuries or mishaps occurring during Skate at SHIFT.
