Join us as we commemorate half a century of dedication, discipline, and determination at the SKIA 50th Anniversary Celebration! Since 1974, our association has been a beacon of martial arts excellence, shaping the lives of generations with the timeless values of respect, perseverance, and harmony.

What to Expect:

Memories Unveiled: Take a nostalgic journey through five decades of triumphs, challenges, and unforgettable moments, as we showcase the rich history and evolution of our karate family.

Masters of the Art: Learn from our visiting instructors, Nobuaki Kanazawa Kancho (Head of SKIF) and Manabu Murakami Shuseki Shihan (Chief Instructor SKIF), as well as the vast knowledge of our own Australian instructors, showcasing the skill, precision, and beauty of traditional Shotokan techniques.

Take the challenge: Train with karateka you’ve known for years, and students you’ve just met. Enter the National tournament and be a part of history. 

Honoring Legends: Pay homage to the pioneers and trailblazers who laid the foundation for our success, as we recognize and celebrate the contributions of past and present instructors, students, and dedicated members.

Unite and Celebrate: Reconnect with old friends, forge new connections, and bask in the camaraderie of fellow martial artists and enthusiasts from near and far.

Feast and Festivities: Indulge in delicious food, drinks, and camaraderie as we toast to the past, present, and future of SKIA

Events during the week include:

Training Seminar

The main focus of Shotokan Week is always training with our visiting instructors, as well as sessions with some of SKIA's own instructors. Training commences from 9am on Wednesday 25th September and continues until Friday afternoon. The final training session for the week is 11.30am-12.30pm on Friday 27th, followed by the Black Belt gradings 1.30pm - 4pm. Keep an eye out for the schedule, and don't miss a minute of this extraordinary opportunity to train with the world's best karateka!

Early bird pricing for seminar tickets is in effect until 25th August - get tickets now before prices go up!

Instructor Training  - Tuesday 24th 1.30pm - 3pm

Arranged by our Technical & Development Committee, these sessions are designed to support instructors with new information, not just karate techniques but also teaching processes, competition updates, grading information and the chance to connect with other instructors from across the country. All instructors are encouraged to attend. 

This session is free for instructors and assistant instructors, but registration is required for record-keeping purposes. 

Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 24th 6pm - 7.30pm

The 2024 AGM will be held at Maroubra Seals Club. 

Finger food will be provided.

Welcome Party - Wednesday 25th 7pm

Catch up with all your interstate karateka friends over snacks at the Randwick Golf Course - but don’t stay up too late, you’ve got training in the morning!

Finger food will be provided. This event is free, but there is a capacity limit, so registration is required. 


Celebration Dinner - Thursday 26th from 6.30pm

This special night will be a hallmark event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Shotokan Karate International Australia. Join us for a fantastic harbour cruise, with presentations, videos, photographs, and entertainment curated to celebrate the fascinating history of our association. 

Tickets include a 3-hour harbour cruise, sit-down buffet dinner and non-alcoholic drinks. Register before 31st July for an early bird discount - tickets are limited so get in quick!

National Tournament - Saturday 28th from 8.30am

Your chance to represent your state in our annual competition! Please add the 'Tournament Entry' ticket to your cart, this will enable you to receive a confirmation email containing the link for registration for the tournament. The tournament fee must be paid  on the Kihapp tournament registration site. Only financial members of SKIA may compete. 

A late entry fee will apply from Sunday 1st September. Entries close Friday 13th September. 


Sayonara Party - Saturday 28th from 6.30pm

The #SKIA50 wrap party will be a big one! Join us for a great night of entertainment as we wrap up this massive week of karate! There'll be food, there'll be music, there'll be KARAKOKE - don't miss it!

Tickets include dinner and non-alcoholic drinks. 


Sunday Outdoor Training - Sunday 29th 9.30am - 11am

Weather permitting, the week will wrap up with an outdoor training at Maroubra Beach followed by some outdoor eating! If you like Burek, this is not an event to miss! This is a fun new event for Shotokan Week a so please come along and enjoy this final episode in the SKIA50 production. Especially if you aren't able to make sessions during the week due to work or school commitments - we hope to see you there. 

Food will be provided; please BYO drinks (no alcohol permitted). This event is free, but registration is required for catering purposes.
