SKIA NSW Development Squad sessions 2026
Description
NSW Development Squad 2026 — Welcome
Welcome to the NSW Development Squad for 2026. This year we’ve organised focused training groups to support athletes who want to fast-track their competition development in Kumite and Kata, and for those aiming to be considered for the National team in 2029.
Who this squad is for
The State Development Squad is intended for athletes who:
Did not apply for the Australian National Squad or were not selected.
Intend to represent NSW at the 2026 National Championships
Prefer a tournament-focused training program to accelerate competition readiness.
Eligibility: Athletes aged 16 years and above who hold at least a green belt are welcome to attend.
Training focus and location
Location: North Sydney Dojo.
Training will concentrate on core skill building, foundational drills, and competition preparation for both Kumite and Kata. Sessions are designed to develop technical ability, tactical awareness, and match readiness.
Mandatory attendance for Nationals
Attendance at NSW Squad training is a minimum requirement to represent NSW at the 2026 National Championships to be held in Brisbane.
Exception: Junior competitors (under 16 years) will continue to be prepared by their local NSW dojo instructors, who will lead their national-level preparation.
This policy builds on the foundation established in 2025 and ensures consistent coaching, support, and a united NSW State Team at the National Championships.
Commitment and team culture
We encourage everyone to bring the same—or greater—enthusiasm and dedication shown in 2025. By training together consistently, we will strengthen the team and foster a lasting culture of camaraderie across NSW. Let’s build on our 2025 results and make 2026 even better.
