What’s it all about?

It’s Halloween time again! so let’s get our hands messy and create our own Halloween Jack O’Lantern. Learn the history behind the tradition and then dive into the basics of designing, the best ways of gutting and then how to get into carving the pumpkin, design options, carving techniques and tips on how to do this safely!

What will we cover?

We will run through a brief history of pumpkin carving and then get right into carving.
Carving will include taking the top off the pumpkin
Taking out all the seeds (the “guts”) of the pumpkin
Designing a face, carving and adding a tea candle for completion. There will be design ideas and templates on hand to help people create their own unique Jack O’lantern. (Note templates will be sent with Zoom link)
Lighting tips

What will you need?

Your own watermelon/carving pumpkin. Any watermelon is fine, but please be careful which pumpkin you choose: only use a ‘Jacko lantern’ or ‘Gold nugget’ pumpkin. Avoid Kent, Butternut, Jarrahdale, or Queensland blue pumpkin as these are all very hard to hollow and carve.
