Skywhales Across Australia

One of the first presentations in South-East Queensland: Patricia Piccinini’s Skywhales Across Australia returns to the Sunshine Coast. 

Patricia Piccinini’s monumental sculptures, designed in the form of hot-air balloons, touring from the National Gallery of Australia, will float across the dawn skies at the UniSC. Pack a picnic, bring the family, and enjoy the magical moment as the Skywhale family floats above the coast. 

Skywhales Across Australia will see Patricia Piccinini’s beloved Skywhale 2013 and Skywhalepapa 2019­–2020 take their family on another tour of Australia.

These two monumental hot air balloons represent nature, family, evolution, care, and wonder — a simple yet beautiful and uplifting story. 

This touring exhibition presents a rare opportunity for regional Australians to experience the magic of the skywhales within their own community.

Skywhales Across Australia is a National Gallery Touring Event, supported by the Australian Government through Visions of Australia and the National Collecting Institutions Touring Outreach Program. 

Skywhales is the third instalment of The Balnaves Contemporary Series and is a Know My Name project.

Skywhales Sunshine Coast is presented by Horizon in partnership with Caloundra Regional Gallery and UniSC.

Please note the following:

• Please remember to bring a picnic blanket.

• You can bring food and drink to this event, but no alcohol.

• Jam Espresso at the UniSC Arena will be open from 4.30 am – 7:00 am

• The UniSC Sunshine Coast campus is a flora and fauna reserve, so please leave your pets at home.

• The flight of Skywhales is weather permitting and times may change on the day.
