Slapdash Choir 'Mid Year Thing'
Description
Sing away any winter blues and shed some choral light on the winter solstice with Slapdash Mid Year Thing!
A continuation of the fabulous success that was the End Of Year Thing, where we had 200 people all singing together. Booking a ticket is essential as this is expected to sell out!
This time around, we will be pre-learning and practicing a song (Dreams by The Cranberries) in the 3 Monday Slapdash sessions leading up to the event, to give us a head start. I'd recommend it's best you try and come to at least one of those practice sessions to roughly learn your part, but i'ts not mandatory; also designed for loved ones and vagrants to attend only this final event and still easily participate.
In addition to a live band, we will have the lovely Mikey gathering some footage to get video evidence of our music-making. So yes, you may appear briefly on camera.
When: Monday 29th June, 6:30pm start, will be wrapped up by 8:30
Where: Thirroul Library, Excelsior Hall (same as always!)
Who: Everyone is invited, all ages and abilities! Bring you family, your partner, your kids, your friends, heck bring along an enthusiastic stranger.
Tickets: Nominal fee to help manage capacity (as well as pay our musicians, videographer, cover hall hire). Everyone needs a ticket, even if you have come to this term of Slapdash. Tickets are limited to 4 per person to make sure everyone gets a chance to bring some loved ones, please only purchase tickets for extra folk if you're sure they're coming!
What: We will be doing some singing, accompanied by live musicians! And with Mikey on his camera getting some footage of us to make a little video! There will also be a showcase performance from Deepdish Choir! And then we will probably make some other unholy (or holy) noises, and drink some tea and be merry!
I suspect we will fill the hall (i.e. 208 people). For any spousal figures not wanting to sing, tell them they can just come along and watch, or just move their mouth silently like a goldfish. Or, god forbid, throw caution to the wind and see what happens when they let go and make some noise!
Some of you generous souls may be asking “can I help with any set up?” To which I say YES PLEASE, I am one man with two hands, and I hear that having more of them makes work lighter! Come along at like 6 or 6:15pm to help with setup and you will get a metaphysical gold star sticker! We need:
Hands and bodies to help set up chairs in the hall, and set up a tea/coffee station in reception
If you’re so inclined, a small offering/plate of sweet treats or finger food to go with cups of tea and juice, so that we may enjoy a humble supper together!
Cleanup duty after the fact!
It’s going to be lovely and nourishing and a celebration of community, hope to see you there!
