Slinky Physics Workshop
Event description
This one day workshop uses experimental investigation and presentations to investigate the physics of the slinky spring.
Designed for Year 12 students studying Physics at high school, the workshop follows the NCEA internal assessment standard format giving a rare chance to practice experiments. It builds on theory from the NCEA Level 2 mechanics and waves standards.
The workshop uses problems from the International Young Physicists' Tournament so offers a chance for students and teachers to learning more about this competition. The 2026 Tournament will be held in Zurich, Switzerland in early July.
Students will leave with their workbook, a T-shirt from our sponsors, Jane Street International, and heir own slinky spring.
Morning tea and lunch are provided and will include vegetarian and halal options. Contact us to discuss other dietary requirements.
Parking is limited at the University and students are encouraged to use public transport. Buses are cheap, frequent and there are bus routes from almost every suburb to the central city.
