    Event description

Join us for an engaging evening with Cory Schreiber, founder of Wildwood Restaurant and winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Pacific Northwest in 1998. Schreiber, who writes, consults, and teaches cooking classes in Portland, Oregon, will share his experiences and insights on the early years of the farm-to-table movement, current trends, and his vision for the future.

A native Oregonian, Cory Schreiber grew up in Dan & Louis Oyster Bar, his family’s Portland restaurant founded by his great-grandfather in 1907. After working in restaurants from San Francisco to Chicago to Boston, Cory returned to the West Coast in 1994 to open Wildwood Restaurant, one of Portland’s first restaurants focusing on seasonal, local cuisine. He quickly became a leader in the region’s bustling culinary scene, winning the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Pacific Northwest in 1998.

In 2000, he published his first cookbook, Wildwood: Cooking from the Source in the Pacific Northwest (Ten Speed Press). Cory later transitioned to roles where he could share his knowledge and passion for local, seasonal food, serving as the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Farm-to-School Program Manager and joining the faculty of the Art Institute of Portland as its culinary artist in residence. His second cookbook, Rustic Fruit Desserts (Ten Speed Press, 2009), was co-authored with Julie Richardson.
