Slow March Tāmaki Makaurau
Event description
Come slow march with us. Meet at Myers Park at 10am.
We’re calling all those who understand the importance of this moment in history to step up. Either we are actively in resistance, on the side of life, or we are complicit with a government that is aiding and abetting catastrophic climate breakdown. Young people have the most to lose, so call on all students, young people, and older people who wish to support them, to hit the streets!
We demand that our government restore affordable and reliable national passenger rail services, along with making urban public transport free and more convenient than driving. These demands are just the start - low-hanging fruit for climate action to make a better future for all of us.A slow march is different to a typical protest march. The slow occupation of public spaces may be experienced as provocative by some, but this means it is harder for our demands and climate breakdown to be ignored. Please come with an open mind and be prepared to try out a different sort of march than you may be used to. There will be various roles to suit everyone. Suitable for ages 16 years and over.
From 10-12, we'll do two hours of training, prep, and practice in nonviolence. Then we'll share some vegan kai (provided), and move out onto the streets. Please come on time with your enthusiasm and beautiful nonviolent spirit. Bring some friends, or make some new friends at the event.
