Description

Class Description: The course Slow Stitch is an invitation to slow down, think deeply, and to trust your hands to stitch your story into fabric. We will learn basic sewing techniques such as the running stitch, chain stitch, and appliqué to create a handmade needle book to house your sewing needles. Once we’ve completed our needle books we will start a series of collaged textile sample pieces to learn turn-needle appliqué and more complex stitches with a focus on drawing with our stitches and incorporating text into our works. Ultimately artists will compose a larger final work using their samples and preferred stitches.

Price: $279

Kadie has assisted in teaching at craft schools, including with embroidery artist Ruth Miller at Penland School of Craft in Spruce Pine, NC, and paper artist Delaney Smith at Arrowmont School of Craft in Gatlinburg, TN. After earning their MFA from the University of Kansas in 2020, Kadie continued their practice through residencies at Paducah AIR Studio in Paducah, KY, and Lackland Well in Farmville, VA. Currently, they teach at the Kansas City Art Institute in the Fiber Department.
