Slow Stitch Saturday (November)
Event description
It's all in the hands. While many of our workshops are sewing machine based, this one is all about the hand stitching.Â
Visible mending and slow stitching bring together a gentle mindfulness, creativity and perhaps a much needed slowness to the day. Last Saturday of the month is Slow Stitch Saturday, 11am-1pm (apart from January, December and public holidays). These are unstructured machine free sharing sessions, where we will use hand stitching, darning, and visible mending techniques. Plenty to be inspired by, and all the assistance you might need.
Do you have some favourite clothes that have been loved so hard, they have developed a few wear and tear edges? Or perhaps something that needs a little pizazz or embellishment? Whether they have rips, tears, holes, or just getting a bit threadbare in spots, knowing how to fix them is a great life skill. Not only can you stitch, darn, mend and patch your own garments, but you can also pass on that (very helpful) life skill to others. By extending the life of our clothes and keeping them in circulation for longer, we become part of the circular economy.
WHAT TOÂ BRING:
A few items that need mending, stitching, reinforcing or embellishing. Each session we will share our knowledge with the best ways to extend the life of your clothing.
A variety of hand sewing yarns and threads will be available for use during the sessions.
Only $20 per person per session!
