slow touch: OPENING NIGHT with Connor Britton, Leah (Kyoshi) & East Denistone
Event description
Join us for the opening night of 'Slow Touch', with performances from Connor Britton, Leah (Kyoshi), and East Denistone.
‘Slow Touch’ brings together the work of six artists who challenge the relentless pace and productivity demands of late capitalism. Conscious of a world where efficiency, automation, and “low touch” business models that minimise human connection for maximum profit are increasingly celebrated, this exhibition proposes an alternative: deliberate slowness, meticulous process, presence and rest as forms of radical resistance.
Navigating artistic practice through chronic illness, burn out and other embodied realities that conflict with the demand for constant productivity, these artists contemplate how fatigue can be acknowledged rather than overcome, and how inhabiting a body that does not conform to normative expectations of ability or availability becomes a site of both vulnerability and power.
‘Slow Touch’ is an invitation to consider: What happens when we refuse the imperative to produce ceaselessly? What forms of connection and creation become possible when we embrace slowness? In an era increasingly defined by automated interactions, these artists insist on the irreplaceable value of the human hand, the embodied process, and the slow, intentional touch.
