Modest fancies Slow-stitch Workshop with Julie Paterson
Event description
Make a modest fancy lampshade
Join artist designer Julie Paterson for Slow-Stitch Saturday, a making workshop for those of you who’d like to learn to upcycle old faves into beautifully imperfect furnishings for your home. You’ll learn how to make an imperfectly beautiful lampshade using a couple of ClothFabric scraps from Julie’s stash, plus some fabric that you bring along yourself. It’s such a lovely way to repurpose a favourite now-worn-out shirt or your old jeans or something with special sentimental value to you, like your Nan’s best tea towel.
Julie will be unpicking her technique for you - so you can make a shade with character - but equally, her methods can be applied to make many modest fancies, like curtains, cushions and all sorts.
Bring: some fabric or garment you’d like to use. Best that it's made from natural materials - cotton or linen.
We can provide the old lampshade (unless you’ve got one you’d like to use).
Workshop includes morning tea and a tour of Julie Paterson's exhibition, Modest Fancies in the Parlour.
