This will be an interactive morning with heaps of opportunities to share and learn with Alison and Michael from ALAN Foods at Jilliby, and the other attendees.Â
ALAN Foods, is a small permaculture market garden that produces food that is All Local, All Natural. They grow everything they sell and aim to provide their local community with access to fresh, nutritious food.
After moving to the Central Coast in 2014 the first addition to the farm was a small flock of chickens which quickly grew to now have a flock of 30-40 chickens. When they purchased the property there were two small overgrown veggie plots. Michael and Alison got to weeding and clearing out the area ready to plant summer veggies, being complete novices at it! Call it beginners’ luck, but they did ok and were soon eating fresh produce from their garden.
Michael always had a vision of growing vegetables in the entire back paddock. Fast forward to 2022 and they have 78 permanent beds in production 1m by 10.5m and an additional dedicated plot for melons, pumpkins and the like. The food forest continues to grow with who knows how many fruit and nut trees with support species and developing lower story and ground cover plants. ALAN Foods runs a successful roadside stall weekly.
Thanks to the support of the Young Farmer Business Program, join us as we re-connect and continue to build and strengthen our community of farmers, supporters, and consumers.Â
Hope to see you there!
