Living lives parallel to our own, inhabiting the spaces around us in their millions but often ignored, reviled as nuisances or dangerous, or simply enjoyed as colourful backgrounds to our lives, insects and spiders are essential to the health of life on earth. In our urban spaces, our backyards, our parks, our natural and our unnatural environments, they go about their business unmoved by our wants and needs even as they are ultimately affected by the choices we make.

Too small, too obscure, or too quick to be observed at length with the naked eye, the photograph allows us to closely observe at leisure and, whether we find these small creatures grotesque or beautiful, to always find them extraordinary.
