Hannah's Story: A Tragic Loss, A Powerful Legacy

This is a unique opportunity to hear the tragic yet inspirational story of Hannah Clarke and her three children—Aaliyah, Laianah, and Trey. Hannah’s story sheds light on the often-hidden terror of coercive control, a form of abuse that is psychological, manipulative, and profoundly dangerous.

On the morning of February 19th, 2020, Rowan Baxter murdered his wife Hannah and their children by setting their car alight. This horrific act shocked the nation and sparked a critical conversation about domestic and family violence in Australia. Many of us are familiar with the headlines - but understanding the patterns of coercive control that led to this tragedy is essential if we are to prevent others from suffering the same fate.

Since that devastating day, Hannah’s parents, Sue and Lloyd Clarke, have become passionate advocates for victims of domestic violence. Through their tireless efforts, they have brought national attention to coercive control and its warning signs - many of which are often invisible or misunderstood because the abuse isn't always physical.

In honour of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah, and Trey, the Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation has launched a groundbreaking initiative: the ‘Hannah’s Story’ Program. This interactive workshop is designed to educate, empower, and inspire change. Participants will gain insight into the early red flags of coercive control, learn how to support those affected, and become part of a broader cultural shift to end domestic and family violence.
