People’s lives are saturated with data, distraction and competing stories and sermons might feel like just more efficiently organised information. Or they can bring the never-failing Word of the ever-faithful God into life right now. In March, SMBC will welcome Jeffrey Arthurs, a richly experienced trainer of preachers and, with Kirk Patston and other practitioners, we will discuss, model and practise Preaching to Remember.
In Preaching as Reminding Jeff writes that preachers need to ‘learn to stir memory…We must rouse that which is already present in the child of God: knowledge of our Father’s love and majesty.’ Reminding is no mere repeating ‘threadbare platitudes’ but involves the use of language, story, delivery and ceremony to prompt and form the believer and the community. Join us in March 2027 to remember your own passion for preaching and to grow in your craft.
