Smudge never broke up. Smudge moved a little slower at the end of the last millennium and indeed signs of life, the beating pulse of Smudge seemed to have ceased as last rites were read.

However, in less dramatic and truer terms, Smudge never stopped drawing breath. An average of 3.75 shows a year since 2001, new songs, THREE albums in 2010 and live appearances in four time zones across two hemispheres, the Sydney/Maitland-based trio celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the release of their landmark debut album “Manilow” with a vinyl re-issue. The following year, it’s 21st birthday, saw the release of “Manilow – Tribute”, an extremely limited vinyl album reconstructed song-by-song by some of Smudge’s buddies including Courtney Barnett, Lou Barlow (Sebadoh), Evan Dando (Lemondheads), Tim Rogers & Davey Lane (You Am I) Alannah Russack & Simon Holmes (The Hummingbirds) and many more.

"Manilow is a wonderful sequence of tuneful vignettes. Its brisk, domestic, cute and as we would have said at the time "slack" somehow, too. " 4/5 UNCUT

“Smudge are deserving of higher accolades and This Smudge is True is a must-have for any record collection.” Xpress
