Event description
Black Snake Productions, in partnership with Heytesbury District Landcare Network, will be presenting a two hour Snake and Spider Safety workshop, a light shared lunch and followed by a local wildlife talk and meet & greet with some beautiful native creatures.
The workshop will cover:
- Snake and spider identification
- Snake and spider behaviour
- Snake and spider avoidance
- How to reduce snake and spider numbers around your workplace/volunteer space/home
- PPE
- Snake and spider first aid
- Legislation, and much more.
The workshop will include PowerPoint slides and physical teaching aids, as well as printed resources such as booklets, identification posters and magnets that participants can take home after the course.
All sessions include live snakes and spiders in a completely safe and approved snake pit to demonstrate behavior and help to understand these venomous creatures.
After the session we will be looking at some of the local wildlife that calls the area home some, learning more about them and their importance in our local ecosystem. We'll find out what we can do to protect our fauna and meet and greet live animals, such as owls, bandicoots, frogs, fruit bats and more.
Please note that the minimum age for this event is 12+ as it discusses snake and spider bite severity and first aid, including images of snake bites and discussion of the potential consequences of snake bite. The training materials were designed with an adult audience in mind, so if registering preteens or teens, please consider if the nature of the training is suitable. Under 18s are to be accompanied by an adult.
