    Event description

    NOTE: This is a 2-part workshop - Thursday 14th November 9.30-12.30 and Saturday 23 November 9.30-12.30 (Your registration provides access to both events)

    Snapshot
    is a Do-It-Yourself assessment of the condition of your soils, pastures, farm water and native vegetation.

    The assessment is easy to do and can be used to:

    • monitor results following changes in management;
    • get a feel for which aspects of your farm could benefit from a closer look.

    Workshop #1:

    • How the biological aspects of plants and microbes interact with the physical and chemical aspects of soil,
    • How to make sense of what you can see and feel in your own soil,
    • How to quickly assess soil health in the paddock using the Snapshot assessments,
      *
      You will need to bring along a soil sample for microbial biomass assessment to this workshop.

    Between the workshops you will assess the health of your soils using the simple Snapshot assessment you have learnt and record your results. At the same time, we will run tests on the sample you provided to determine the microbial biomass in your soil.

    Workshop #2:

    • Show and Tell the results of your Snapshot assessments,
    • Discuss what the results mean, and what you can do in terms of management if you want to improve some aspects.,
    • Receive the results of your soil Microbial Biomass assessment and discuss.

    What to bring:

    • Workshop 1: An intact plug of your own soil which is about 150mm x 150mm x 150mm,
    • Workshop 2: The results of the soil assessment you have done using the Snapshot tool,
    • Your enthusiasm and an inquiring mind!

    Note - attendance at both workshops is essential for you to get the most out of the teachings.
