Join an all ANU Law Alum panel to learn more about what associate’s do, what Judges are looking for, and practical tips on how you might apply for the position. Moderated by Associate Professor Heather Roberts FAAL, ANU/NJCA Visiting Judge, Justice Lesley Taylor (Court of Appeal, Victoria) will be in conversation with Jamie Cheeseman and Christina Lee to answer all of your questions about being an associate (and why you should apply!) Hon Justice Leslie Taylor
The Hon. Justice Lesley Taylor was appointed to the Supreme Court of Victoria in July 2018 and to the Court of Appeal in October 2022. She had previously practised as a lawyer for 25 years, including 20 years as a barrister at the Victorian Bar, where she was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011. As counsel, Taylor JA primarily undertook criminal cases, both prosecuting and defending. She has also worked in various international bodies. In 2004 and 2005, she was Senior Trial Counsel at the Office of the Prosecutor in Sierra Leone. In 2006 she was Senior Counsel assisting the Independent Commission of Inquiry into Timor Leste. In 2011 she was Senior Advisor to the Special Independent Commission of Inquiry into Kyrgyzstan. Taylor JA has also taught advocacy internationally: in Uganda in both 2015 and 2017 and in Cambodia in 2016.
Christina Juyeon Lee
Christina Juyeon Lee graduated from the ANU in 2021, coming to ANU on a Phillipa Weeks Scholarship. She is currently a Lawyer at Legal Aid ACT, and prior to that Christina worked as an Associate to the Chief Justice of the ACT Supreme Court, and as a lawyer at an international commercial firm.
Jamie Cheeseman
Jamie Cheeseman graduated from the ANU in 2025. During her degree, she worked part-time as a legal associate to Justice Gill of the Federal Circuit and Family Court (Division 1). She is currently working as an associate to Justice Baker of the ACT Supreme Court and hopes to commence practice as a criminal lawyer next year.
