Social Game - Brew Game part 2 - 2026

☕ Hello Cairns Coffee Lovers!

For everyone who loves making black coffee at home—this one is for you.

We’re bringing back our Social Game: Brewers Cup! This is not only a competition. It’s an opportunity to meet other coffee lovers, exchange brewing ideas, and learn from each other.

During the competition, I’ll ask competitors about:

• Their brewing recipe

• Why they chose their method

• What adjustments they made each run

• How those changes affected the final cup

We had a great time last time diving into each brewer’s recipe and thought process. This time, I hope we can have even more fun exploring different brewing techniques together.

## Competition Rules

1. Same coffee but no limits - think out of the box

All competitors will use the same coffee to keep the competition fair and simple. Use any equipment to make a cup of 150g black coffee in 8 min. Out of time or less than a cup will be disqualified.

2. 30min Practice session

There will be a 30-minute practice session.

Each competitor will receive 100g of coffee for practice.

3. Bring your equipment

Please bring your own drippers and grinder.

A Niche Duo grinder, Comandante grinder, and several drippers will also be available to borrow.

4. Competition coffee and time limit (8min)

Each competitor will receive a maximum of 50g of coffee per round and have 8 minutes to test.

Running out of coffee or exceeding the time limit will result in disqualification.

5. Knockout format

The competition will follow a one-on-one knockout format.

I’ll ask questions between rounds to help everyone understand what each competitor is doing.

6. Minimum serving amount

Competitors must provide at least 150g of brewed coffee for judging.

You’re welcome to brew more and keep the remaining coffee.

7. Blind tasting and voting

All coffees will be judged through blind tasting by all the competitors.

Everyone will receive one vote. If the result is tied, the head judge will cast the deciding vote.

Places are limited, and priority will be given to competitors who purchase their tickets first.
