Social Knit-Working

This event has passed RSVP

Event description

Calling all crafty types! Join us for a social session of knitting, crocheting and weaving as we make a heap of beanies for those experiencing housing insecurity in Adelaide! Please BYO yarn and needles; ACE will supply space; tea, coffee and snacks and vibes.

We’ll make a cosy space together where we can share knowledge and skills under the motto of “If you do know, come to teach…if you don’t know, come to learn”, and supply some patterns. (Some donated yarn is available and donations are very welcome.) If you are bringing yarn, dark colours are often preferred by people experiencing housing insecurity as they draw less attention, and actual wool is warmest - but all is welcome at the Social Knitwork, as current needs are so high.

If you can’t attend, you can drop your hand-knitted beanies in to us in the gallery any time during opening hours. After the event, ACE will donate our “knit one, give one” stack to the Hutt St Centre.

This workshop will be led by Abbey Murdoch, anti-poverty and homelessness activist and current ACE Studio artist, with contributions and guidance from other experienced knitters.
