Session Summary: Sue Beckingham and Alison Purvis will share the benefits of digital networking and the ripple effect of interacting and sharing through multiple social media channels. Tips on how to promote your published works, distil publications into social media content, and how to generate further impact will be given.
Sue and Alison are co-founders of the anuual Social Media for Learning in Higher Education international conference, a conference which celebrated its 10th year in 2024. They have published research (i.e. Purvis, Rodger & Beckingham, 2020) and learning resources (Purvis & Beckingham, 2023) on social media for learning.
A/Prof Sue Beckingham is an Associate Professor in Learning and Teaching, a National Teaching Fellow, and Learning and Teaching Lead in Computing and Digital Technologies at Sheffield Hallam University. She is a Fellow of the Staff and Educational Developers Association, a SEDA Executive Committee member and a Senior Fellow of the HEA. Sue is also a member of the Association of National Teaching Fellows Committee and a Visiting Fellow at Edge Hill University. Her research interests include social media for learning and the use of technology to enhance active learning; and has published and presented this work internationally as an invited keynote speaker. She is the co-founder of the international #LTHEchat 'Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Twitter Chat'.

Dr Alison Purvis is an Associate Dean Teaching and Learning at Sheffield Hallam University (UK) and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) with 25+ years of higher education experience. She is actively researching in the areas of higher education practice and leadership, digitally enhanced learning, inclusive practice, social media for learning, physiology of exercise, and public health. Alison is a senior editor at the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice (JUTLP) and a director at the Open Access Publishing Association (OAPA). She is passionate about open access publishing where the academic community support each other to publish quality articles, challenging the predominant for-profit model of publishing.
