Reforming Australia's mental health ecosystem for people with significant mental health challenges
Presenter: Dr. Joel Hollier
Australia's mental health ecosystem has long been described as "fragmented", "siloed", and "stretched". Despite significant investment and ongoing reform, service need continues to outpace delivery, particularly for those experiencing life interrupting mental health challenges.
Recently, the Federal Government announced widespread cuts to the NDIS - cuts that disproportionately impact people with psychosocial disability (that is, disability arising from mental health challenges). Simultaneously, access rates to the NDIS for people with psychosocial disability have steadily declined, leaving hundreds of thousands of people across Australia lacking access to suitable supports.
Drawing on wide-ranging research with diverse populations across Australia, this presentation asks “what is happening in Australia’s mental health landscape, and what can be done about it?”
This is a free event, and light refreshments will be served. For those who can't make it in person, please feel free to register to receive a Zoom link.
