South African Summer Social Sokkie - Manly - All Welcome
Event description
*** event now sold out ***
A social night of getting together for food, drink, kuier, music and laughter and dancing!
This is a casual, community event - families welcome!
Learn to Sokkie!
We'll start the night with some instruction and guidance from some seasoned dancers to kick us off, and then dance and socialise. Join the Sokkie Jol!
For those new to it, a sokkie, langarm or sakkie sakkie is a South African, usually Afrikaans partnered dance. As formal dances go, it's one of the easier ones to have a go at first time, and it's a lot of fun. Think line dancing, barn dancing vibe with more of a ballroom dancing position.
BYO drinks
The event is BYO (for those new arrivals, that means you can bring your own drinks), so you can pack in your own beers, klippies and coke, or whatever is your poison (responsible consumption only!).
Bring some shoes (or sokkies) you can dance in, a sense of humour, and a friend/fling/family member/someone you fancy/wing person to dance with. I am guessing there will be plenty of singles, and it will be fun social dancing, so not stuck with your partner all night, but if you can, try to bring someone along or pair up with others, so that it makes the dancing bit a little easier and more fun.
This event is for all - family friendly event- but there is byo drinking and dancing, and children must have a ticket, and must be under supervision.
Confident sokkiers we need you to lead the way and show us how it's done. Also welcome are complete newbies, secret salsa dancers, music lovers, those with dancing ambitions, and those with 2 left feet who just want to have a laugh and bit of fun, join us for a fun night of music and merriment. There will be plenty of absolute beginners, and hopefully some local talent to show us how it's done!
We will have some boerie rolls available for sale - at sausage sizzle price.
We still need a few hands on deck to pull it all together, so if you have are a wannabe bouncer, a braai master, or make delicious secret tomatie sous, please get in touch with Colleen on 0416 471594.
This is a community event at a community hall - please be mindful that we have to leave the venue clean and tidy and keep the noise down as it gets late.
