ON Tll 4: for a kitchen

…for a kitchen, the first work staged for live performance of a series entitled the transdimensional love letters, explores agency as an organizer of inputs.

ON “On Names:”

I recorded the voices of my parents (Joaquin & Daniela) reading off phonemes (the sounds in words) from Spanish, Italian, and German in search of what my name was made out of. I took this to the vibraphone.

Crawling inside a mouth, inner metal parts sang. On Names is the time I spent there.

Niran Dasika is a trumpeter, improvisor and composer based in Melbourne, Australia whose work encompasses jazz, free improvisation and electronic music. Niran’s virtuosic trumpet playing and unique voice as a composer and band leader have led a wide-ranging career around Australia and Japan, where he lived for several years. His work has been recognised by a number of awards including the 2019 APRA AMCOS Professional Development Award, the 2019 Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year and 2nd place at the 2017 National Jazz Awards. Niran’s live solo performances augments his distinctive, etherial trumpet sound with delay, looping and live processing to create mesmeric, hypnotic patterns underneath his lyrical trumpet playing.
