Soft Hours - Book Swap #4
Description
Join us for our book swap; a relaxed, no-pressure afternoon at Nitty Gritty (American-Singaporean Soul Food) in Singapore, where we slow down, share space, and swap books with people you didn’t come in knowing.
How it works:
Bring a book (or up to 4) that you’ve already read, wrap it, and write a few hints about its vibe on the outside (no spoilers).
When you arrive, place your wrapped book into the shared pile.
Write your name on a slip of paper and place it into the draw.
Names will be drawn at random to decide the order of choosing.
Feel free to settle in, order food and drinks, and chat with others before the swap begins.
When your name is called, you’ll pick one book from the pile.
Come and leave knowing someone new.
Please note we’re hosted by Nitty Gritty, so we ask that you support the venue by purchasing at least one drink or food item during the event.
Cancellation: If you are no longer able to attend, please refund your ticket so someone else can take your place.
FAQs
- Do I need to wrap my book?
Yes. Please wrap your book and write a few hints about its vibe on the outside (no spoilers). You can also leave a small note inside if you’d like.
- Can I bring more than one book?
Yes, up to 4 books max. You can enter your name into the draw once per book you bring.
- What kind of book should I bring?
Any book you’ve already read and would genuinely recommend. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, all welcome.
- What if I don’t get a book I like?
That’s part of the experience, the swap is random by design. But once everyone has opened their books, you’re welcome to trade with others if something else catches your eye.
- Can I come alone?
Coming alone and talking to strangers is a big part of Soft Hours, but you’re just as welcome to take it at your own pace, whether that means joining a conversation or simply enjoying the space quietly.
