‘Soft Pressing’ and ‘Something Blue’ Exhibition Opening
Event description
Saturday 14 Sept 2024 | 2pm – 4pm
Join us to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions: Soft Pressing featuring work by Simon Degroot and Something Blue by LeAnne Vincent.
Simon Degroot's Soft Pressing is an exhibition which investigates and encourages an interaction with surfaces that make up our everyday environments. Through a process of pressing paper to walls, footpaths or other surfaces and then rubbing graphite or charcoal, artist Simon Degroot has used ‘frottage’ to record specific places and times.
Located in The Condensery’s Bomb Shelter, Something Blue is an installation by LeAnne Vincent that draws parallels between the mating patterns of the male satin bowerbird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) and people who use online dating. Through the installation’s proliferation of blue cyanotypes and video imagery, LeAnne Vincent asks: ‘What if, like the satin bowerbird, we use our belongings to attract a mate?’
