“Software in qualitative data analysis: how to make it work for you”

This session is part of the series: Qualitative Data Analysis at UTS. The aim of this series is to showcase and celebrate the diverse and innovative ways UTS researchers are working with qualitative data, unpack some underlying principles of qualitative data analysis, and explore some qualitative data theoretical frameworks.

In this workshop participants will learn some of the most common and valuable features of software used in qualitative data analysis. We will also cover some frequent challenges of using software, including ways in which analysis can be mis-directed by software features, and how to take back control. In this workshop Professor Nick Hopwood addresses fundamental questions about qualitative data analysis and what software enables – do not expect a tutorial on how to use NVivo or other software tools!

Recommended audience

All researchers working with qualitative data, especially those considering using a coding-based software such as NVivo, MAXqda.

1. Learn the main software used in qualitative data analysis and their features
2. Learn tips and tricks on how take control of your own qualitative data analyses
