Soil Health for Climate Resilience Workshop - Singleton

Healthy soil is the foundation of a healthy Landcare site. Climate change and extreme weather events are putting extra pressure on our soils. What can we do to increase their resilience?

Join a fun, interactive workshop facilitated by Dr Ernie Harbott of Compost Culture and Soil Sisters Singleton. Ernie is a professional composter by trade with Science degrees in Chemistry and Environmental Science, a PhD in Biogeochemistry and a Diploma of Education.

This workshop is designed for those with beginner knowledge of soils and is also a good refresher for those with moderate knowledge. We will be covering soil structure, soil food webs and soil carbon. You will have the opportunity to look at soil samples under the microscope and can bring your own soil samples along as well.

We will be exploring how healthy soils lead to climate resilience and ways we can help maintain our soil health.

In the afternoon you will learn to conduct practical soil assessment tests in the field. These include worm counts, root structure, soil structure, rhizosheaths, slake test, pH test, ribbon test, jar test, percentage cover, infiltration and compaction. Take home these skills to apply on your property or Landcare site.

The workshop is hosted by Hunter Region Landcare Network as part of our Innovations and Partnerships program and is free to HRLN Individual Members and 2 people from each HRLN member group.
