Alan is an agriculture consultant and educator. Along with his son, Jarrah, he runs Coates Horticulture, a consultancy that primarily focuses on pest and nutrition issues in the macadamia industry.  

Alan has extensive experience in farming, having worked on farms of all sizes throughout his lifetime. His services are highly sought after due to his wealth of knowledge and experience.

For over 30 years, Alan taught Agriculture and Horticulture at NSW TAFE. He is well-known by farmers in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. In addition to teaching Biological Farming, he taught a range of subjects, including Soils, Integrated Pest Management, Production Horticulture, Macadamia Production, Compost Production, Subtropical Fruit Growing, and more.

Alan currently serves on the SoilCare Inc Board.
