Simply invoking the name SoloDuo, consisting of Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela, portends a concert of state-of-the-art duo playing. And they did not disappoint. Everything was a gem: the Debussy Petite Suite, Piazzolla Tango Suite, and their miraculous version of Beethoven's Sonata Pathétique. A handful of other duos are on this level now, but none are better.

Breathtaking recital Friday night by the young Italian virtuosos Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela, who perform together as Soloduo. Extraordinarily sensitive, with effortless command and an almost unbearable delicacy of touch, the duo's playing was nothing less than rapturous -- profound and unforgettable musicianship of the highest order.

Anyone who made it to the third recital of the Classical Guitar Weekend to hear the guitar duo SoloDuo likely would have considered themselves blessed to have attended an unforgettable performance. Comprised of guitarists Lorenzo Micheli (a world-class soloist in his own right) and Matteo Mela, SoloDuo poured forth music of passion, beauty, and refinement from start to finish.
