Jody and Tia welcome you to our October Somatic Dance offering.

Auckland Somatic Dance Collective is honoured to welcome Jody from the Coromandel, and Tia from the far North who are collaborating to bring this special offering to our community this October. Both powerful medicine women in their own right, this alchemical fusion of organic intelligence is going to be truly amazing!

Somatic Dance is a guided free form movement journey, delving deep into the layers of the body and held in a non-judgemental space where all of you is welcome. No prior dance experience is necessary and all bodies are welcome. There are no routines or steps to follow here, simply an invitation to discover how your body wishes to move. The guided facilitation is supported by a carefully curated soundscape overseen by a DJ. 

This dance is an invitation for you to come and move your body to the unique rhythm of you, supporting a deeper connection with yourself and others.

This is a space free from alcohol, shoes and talking. Let the epic music and guidance of your facilitator carry you out of your mind and into your body, allowing yourself to experience the transformative power of Somatic Dance! The music takes the form of a wave, beginning gently before building to a peak, then settling back down to land softly and slowly.

We recommend wearing clothes you are comfortable moving in (layers are great), bring along a drink bottle and a drop or two of curiosity!

Our dance spaces are designed for adults to create a space where you are able to freely explore and express your authentic self, in whichever shape and form it happens to be expressing itself. As part of this, we request that alternate arrangements are made to care for any children while you attend. If you have a child you would like to bring along, please reach out to us and we can have a chat about whether it is a possibility.

The location is: Mt Eden Village Centre, 449 Mount Eden Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024

We welcome you at any time from 6.45pm for a 7pm start.

$20-$25 per person; cash on the door or through Humanitix 

We have adopted a two tier ticket option:

$20 supported dancers, we want to continue to make our dances accessible

$25 supporting dancers, for those who feel more abundant and are able to support us

If price is a barrier to attending, please reach out to us and we can work something out, an additional hand with tasks on the day is often appreciated.

💫INTRODUCING💫

Jody, Somatic Dance Facilitator

Your guide is Jody Brown, a woman dedicated to the path of the heart and the embodiment of our humanity and connection for the purpose of discovering our own rich and deep authentic truth and freedom. 

Jody has spent years in embodiment and inquiry practices and has been teaching yoga since 2012, has trained in Somatic Therapy, Zenthai Shiastu, Somatic Dance and is learning from her great teachers, LIFE and her own heart as she goes and grows.

Tia SomaWairua; Soundscape Creatrix

SomaWairua is body and spirit entwined.

Tia is 200hr trained Somatic Dance teacher, an avid 5 rhythms dancer, a rongoa practitioner, a lover of movement and a passionate advocate for embodiment.

She is an alchemist who weaves spirit (wairua) and bodies (tinana) with potent soundscapes, bringing participants deeply into their bodies to awaken, dismantle and integrate many facets and threads of self.

Tia has a unique set of life experiences which means she has the capacity to hold grounded and wise containers, guiding you to navigate your inner landscape, through clear connection to her tupuna (ancestors), connection to nature, to source and a potent ability to sense energetic shifts, frequencies and knowing of what is arising for you the dancers.

Her spaces are a transformational journey, taking you to the depths of your body/soma/tinana and into a place where powerful medicine is stored for your own re-calibration, balance and becoming.

She is thoroughly interwoven with the natural world and this comes through in all of her work. Within our reconnection to nature is where we find the true power to reshape and heal ourselves.
