Somatic movement
Description
This is the fifth of a monthly event series exploring women's health with diverse practitioners - bringing together science, somatic, holistic.
Much of the current conversation about the nervous system is focused around regulation. While this is important, we believe that a healthy nervous system is a responsive and flexible one. Being able to mobilise when a situation asks something of you, and to settle again once it has passed. Even just knowing when we change states or are entering activation or dysregulation is crucial in a world full of intensity and business.
This workshop is a practical introduction to exploring our nervous system states. It opens with a short talk on how the nervous system works and why it moves between states, and then moves into a series of guided, body-based practices that build somatic intelligence: the capacity to read your own state accurately and to shift it when needed. The practices are a mixture of interactive, and interoceptive (self), using music, movement, sound, breath as core tools. Most importantly, everything is an invitation. You set your own level of participation throughout, and there is no "right/wrong/good/bad" - and hopefully we'll have fun whilst learning!
By the end you should have a clearer sense of where your nervous system tends to sit, what moves it, and a few practices you can use on your own afterwards.
Come with an open mind and a curious body. For women. Please wear clothing you can move in and bring something warm for the floor work. Numbers are limited.
