Something Like Happiness is the startingly original and timely new novel from Tom Newlands, the multi award winning author of Only Here, Only Now.

Frazer and Caitlin have come a long way without ever leaving their dead-end town. They were teenage sweethearts but years later, life's got serious: the flat they share is barely habitable, money is tight, and their autistic son is struggling at school.

Caitlin dreams of fresh carpets and clean walls, but for Frazer Apex Court is the only home he has known. It's where his parents lived and died and where the memory of them remains.

He's asked Caitlin to marry him twice. She tries to leave most weeks. They still love each other - but is it enough?

Tom Newlands is a neurodivergent writer from Scotland. His debut novel Only Here, Only Now won the MicKitterick Prize, was runner-up for the ADCI Literary Prize, shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize and named Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year. He is also the recipient of a Royal Society of Literature Scriptorium Award, a London Writers Award an a Creative Future Writers' Award. He lives in London. 

Join us at The Wee Bookshop for an engaging evening with a featured author. The event will begin with a 40-minute chaired discussion, offering insight into the author’s work and creative process. This will be followed by an audience Q&A, giving you the chance to ask your own questions, and then a relaxed book signing and opportunity to meet the author in person.

Doors open at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start, with the evening usually finishing around 8:45pm. Hot and cold drinks will be available to purchase on the night.
