SOMS Flagship Seminar with Professor Rikke Steensbjerre Møller
Event description
YOU ARE INVITED
Please join us for a talk by Professor Rikke Steensbjerre Møller on 'Utility of Genetic Testing for Therapeutic Decision-making in Individuals with Epilepsy,' a flagship seminar brought to you by the School of Medical Sciences.
Professor Rikke Møller is a geneticist and serves as Head of the Laboratory and Department of Epilepsy Genetics and Personalized Medicine at the Danish Epilepsy Centre, Filadelfia. She also holds a Professorship in Epilepsy Genetics at the University of Southern Denmark.
Her expertise spans over two decades, from early academic training (PhD awarded in 2008 rom University of Copenhagen) to leading internationally recognized research in epilepsy genetics. With a broad range of state-of-the-art human genetics and genomics skills, her team has discovered or contributed to the discovery of more than 15 different genes including SLC6A1, DYRK1A, GRIN2A, KCNA2, STX1B, HCN1, SYNGAP1 and CHD2. Furthermore, her team is specialized in deep phenotyping and genotype-phenotype correlations especially in developmental and epileptic channelopathies e.g. GABAA-receptor genes, SCN2A, SCN8A, KCNA2, SLC6A1, KCNT1, and her work has led to personalized treatment options in different forms of genetic epilepsies including GABRA1, SCN2A, SCN8A, and KCNA2. She is co-chair of the Clinical Genetics Working Group within EpiCARE - the European Reference Network for Rare and Complex Epilepsies, and serves as Associate Editor at Epilepsia. She has authored or co-authored more than 320 scientific publications in the field of epilepsy genetics.
