Songs and Incantations - A Flute, Piano & Electronics Recital
Event description
Songs and Incantations
A Flute, Piano & Electronics Recital - proceeds will be donated to charity
Songs and Incantations is a reflection on our universal language of song - a primal act of expression that transcends time and culture. From lament to love song, from ancient chant to electronic mantra, each song is a bridge of expression, spirit, and sound that connect us all.
The recital features two special premieres:
Sang Yeo Sori (Song of the Funeral Procession, 2019) by Jane Kim, written in memory of the victims of the 2014 Sewol Ferry tragedy, evokes the Korean funeral chant sung to guide souls safely to heaven - a moving elegy for collective grief and remembrance.
Incantations vers l’ailleurs (Incantations toward Elsewhere, 2023), a collaborative creation by Alcide Menetrier and Brian Kim, reimagines André Jolivet’s Cinq Incantations through contemporary electronic sound, bridging the two sonic landscapes. This performance will be a premiere in Australia.
We look forward to welcoming you to an evening of harmony, both musical and human.
