The Heart of Christmas - a charity concert in aid of Penny Brohn UK cancer wellbeing charity
Event description
On the night of the Winter Solstice Bozarts and Los Picantes invites you to celebrate together this special turning-point, when nights are longest and days are at their shortest.
Responding to the need for spiritual, emotional and physical renewal at this time The Heart of Christmas program contains musical performances and readings of spirit, soul and fun.
Bozarts' newest ensemble Los Picantes is an unusual quintet of flute, clarinet, bassoon, violin and harp that plays music ranging from classical to folk origins. The quintet is joined in this programme by a shimmering ten-voice all-female choir for Benjamin Britten’s harp-based and much-loved A Ceremony Of Carols.
Themes of the female role in procreation and birth are also explored with readings and pieces such as Gustav Holst’s Hymn to the Dawn (from the Rig Veda).
Other music includes
- O come, O come Emmanuel (arr. Bristol composer William Goodchild)
- Carols and songs – Past Three O’Clock, Once In Royal David's City, etc.
Los Picantes’ most-recent event was the sold-out Brohnbourne picnic-with-music at Penny Brohn UK this July. PBUK is also the beneficiary of any donations made for The Heart Of Christmas.
The venue is Grove Hall - a community venue that is part of the former St. Christopher's school. There is a complementary mulled wine with an adult ticket booking. Please also feel free to BYO drink.......
This is a fundraising event for the Penny Brohn UK cancer and wellbeing charity. In place of paying for a ticket, we encourage you to make a donation to Penny Brohn UK. Suggested minimum donations are £10 per adult and £5 for young people.
