SONGS OF SOLITUDE - A TWILIGHT GARDEN CONCERT in WOMBARRA, NSW
8 Dam Rd
Wombarra NSW, Australia
Description
Karen, Andrée and Kelvin
Karen Cummings and Kelvin Heisman share a love of the many possibilities the pairing of voice and piano opens up. This program sees them create musical crossings between the songs written by Australian composer Andree Greenwell and Eric Satie, Bjork and Piazzola amongst others in a program that explores songs about aloneness and solitude. The Tango came into being amongst immigrant men living alone and dancing together in the ports of Buenos Aires, Andree Greenwell explores the solo flights of Amelia Earhart and Bjork sets the poetry of ee cummings in stunning evocations of loss and celebration of our essential aloneness. Traditional folk songs Loch Tay Boat song and My Luv’s in Germany sing of the longing for lost loves and Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most and Skylark speak of the longing for a love that never was. Karen and Kelvin bring their diverse experience working in classical music, opera, new art music and jazz to create a unique, evocative and passionate approach to the art of song.
About the Venue
Covid - 19 allowed us the opportunity to explore the possibilities of small concerts in a garden setting. The motivation was to keep live music alive and support performing artists. Last year we found the magic time for the concerts was twilight. We are excited to present the 5th Concert in this series . All proceeds go to the artist.
A tasty morsel and a drink will be offered but please feel free to bring your own drink and snacks.
As the air is cooling please bring coats, blankets etc. In case of rain the small number means the concert can still be staged.
We have a Covid - 19 OHS Plan and a QR Code for Check In.
