The Sonic Drops are a Jazz-Reggae trio from Sydney.

Founded by drummer Jared Underwood in 2019. Over the recent years the band has built a following in their local community playing a residency at a craft brewery called One Drop. They have also played at Restaurant Hubert, SIMA presents Ruby’s Summer Socials, Lazybones, The Dock, The Duke, Miss Celies, The Rocks Markets, The Cronulla Jazz and Blues Festival 2024 and more.

The band plays jazz trio arrangements of classic Reggae and Jamaican songs by artists including : Jackie Mittoo, The Skatalites, Delroy Wilson, Ernest Ranglin, Monty Alexander, Sly & Robbie, Toots & The Maytals and Bob Marley.

The band features Al Goodman (Keyboards), Abel Cross (Bass) and Jared Underwood (Drums)

Jared is an award winning film, tv and game music composer who has written game music soundtracks for 9 popular games including ‘One More Line’. He also has a solo electronica project called BATTERIE with music released on Spotify and Apple music. He has been nominated for 2 ARIA awards with his cinematic world music band CODA who have played at Woodford Folk festival, Vivid & The Sydney Festival. Jared has also played with - Daniel Johns (Silverchair), Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun), The Whitlams, Jenny Morris, Hugo Race (Nick Cave) Lenka, King Tide, Grafton Primary, PROP, CODA, and more.

Al is an accomplished Reggae, jazz, and soul pianist who has toured with a variety of acts locally and internationally including; Skunkhour, The Strides, Caribbean Soul, Suite Az and Cameron Undy's Old school funk and groove band ! Al’s original band Te Mana has recently supported New Zealand Reggae legends 'Katchafire' throughout Australia. Al also worked for Caribbean music master Errol Renaud, playing keyboards in Australias biggest and longest running Reggae night 'Reggae Monday’s' for 9 years.

Abel has studied jazz music at the Sydney Conservatorium. He is a dedicated ‘genre-hopper’, writing and performing with his own original contemporary music projects, and as sideman with a diverse range of musical luminaries from Australia and abroad. He has played with - Matt Keegan, Bernie McGann, Nadine Pita, Jeremy Rose, Phil Slater, Holly Throsby, Scott Tinkler and toured internationally with Royal Headache.
