A concert of deep listening, meditation and sound

Join Amakumo and Elliott Treves for a unique evening in which live music, deep listening, and contemplative practice come together into a single unfolding experience.

Drawing inspiration from diverse musical traditions and contemporary improvisation, Sonic Horizons invites audiences into a space that is both concert and meditation, performance and participation.

The evening begins with a live musical collaboration featuring the expressive voice of the flute alongside the rich resonance of Japanese traditional string instruments. Through original compositions, improvisation and intercultural dialogue, Amla and Brandon create soundscapes that are intimate, evocative and deeply atmospheric.

As the performance unfolds, Elliott Treves gradually guides the audience into a more immersive meditative experience. Using live instruments including singing bowls, monochord, voice, percussion, and overtone-rich sound textures, the concert gently transitions into a space of stillness, reflection, and inner exploration.

Rather than separating music and meditation, Sonic Horizons explores the meeting point between them — where attentive listening becomes a doorway to presence.

Whether you come for the music, the meditation, or simple curiosity, this evening offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and experience sound in a profound and meaningful way.

-= Amakumo Bio =-

Amakumo is a Melbourne-based duo featuring Brandon Lee on Japanese koto and Amla Periakarpan on violin and flute.

Blending traditional acoustic instruments with live looping technology, Amakumo creates rich, evolving soundscapes that draw inspiration from nature, atmosphere, and the meeting of cultures. Their music combines the distinctive voice of the Japanese koto with expressive violin and flute, building immersive layers of melody, texture, and rhythm in real time.

The name “Amakumo” (rain clouds in the sky) reflects the duo’s fascination with landscapes, movement, and the transient beauty of the natural world. Through a balance of composition and improvisation, Amakumo invites audiences into a contemplative and cinematic musical journey.
