Through World Heritage – Tales of Landscapes & Night Skies with Jay Evans
Join Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Jay Evans for an evening dedicated to exploring the art of photographing World Heritage landscapes and the natural values they represent. Based in the Blue Mountains, Jay is a landscape, nature, and astro photographer whose work reflects a deep connection to the environment and a passion for conservation, history, and storytelling through imagery.
His journey has taken him from the towering sandstone cliffs and ancient rainforests of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area to the striking desert landscapes of Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park. Along the way, he has guided more than 500 guests on workshops, tours, and expeditions, helping photographers of all levels to frame their own unique perspectives within some of the world’s most awe-inspiring and fragile environments.
In this two-hour talk, Jay will share the stories behind two of his favourite images, each set within a World Heritage landscape. You’ll gain insight into the moments of stillness and unpredictability, the challenges of extreme conditions, and those fleeting alignments of light, land, and sky that define the very essence of nature photography.
Drawing on his experience as an accredited tour operator with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park, Jay offers more than technical knowledge. He provides an honest look at the patience, preparation, and perseverance required to capture images that not only inspire but also reflect the deeper values of World Heritage places.
This evening offers inspiration, practical ideas, and a richer appreciation of the art and responsibility of capturing World Heritage through the lens.
About Jay Evans
Jay Evans is a Nature, Landscape, and Astro Photographer based in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
His work is driven by a deep passion for wild places and the night sky, capturing the beauty of rugged landscapes, natural light, and celestial wonders across Australia. From ancient escarpments and waterfalls to pristine wilderness under star-filled skies, he seeks out moments that connect people to nature through powerful imagery.
Alongside his photography, Jay leads guided tours and workshops that help others develop their skills in landscape, nightscape, and nature photography, with a focus on creative technique and environmental appreciation. He holds commercial tour operator licenses with NSW National Parks, Northern Territory Parks, and Parks Australia, and is an accredited Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Tour Guide.
